I don't know about your ECU but if the valves/head have been ported then it will (should) now run lean.
My 916 had the heads flowed and when I started it up for the first time it was missing and backfiring and wouldn't even run for long because it was so lean, I couldn't get it to run on the bleed screws either but, fortunately the ECU has a fuel trimmer that I could turn up (almost all the way) and then balance on the bleeds.
I set mine a little on the rich side (5.2% co) and I notice that my custom map has a minus number in the 1000 rpm setting, so presumably it works at that RPM, otherwise why would he have set it that way?
