El G,

This is a common problem on the 998 oil coolers; I believe I’ve had 2 go bad on me and a fellow competitor had them go regularly on his 998. The 998 OEM oil coolers can be hard to come by on EBay, but they pop up from time to time.

I fitted an oil cooler from a 748R on my 998 with a little bit of modification to the mounts no problem. I currently have a 749 oil cooler mounted to my 998 that I purchased off of EBay…the biggest pain with this one was cutting off the mount at the lower portion of the cooler.

You should be able to make just about any Ducati oil cooler work with some slight modifications. Even the older style coolers with the banjo bolts at the top of the inlet/outlet for the cylinder heads can be capped so that it will work with the 998. I may have photos on my home computer of both of them mounted to my 998.

Gotham Cycles on EBay was great with finding me parts for my 998 and I hear that Chris Boy in FL has some hard to come by parts. Also try searching for complete 998 motors on EBay, those are sometimes included in the bid.

I’d make something work for now so that you can ride and in the meantime keep searching/waiting for the OEM replacement.

Sorry to read about your frustration,
Tifosi
