I have 11:1 pistons (JE) in my 97 SS CR. I retarded the ignition timing about 3 degrees and I run 93 octane (R+M/2 method) - no pinging. (It would happily run on 87 stock, but no more....).
Power is nicely increased and I just filled up after "normal" riding and got nearly 50 MPG (with 41mm FCRs, K&N pod filters, Dyna coil, and Nichols flywheel). FUUUUUNNNNNN bike!
