Here's two 749R radiators for sale for reasonable money. That way you won't have to downgrade your radiator and fiddle with an extra elbow and hose.
Thanks a lot for the link, will look into it. But before I do, is there a point swapping my stock 999 rad for the 749R's rad ?

If yes, then by all means I'll look into it, the price is reasonable and also swapping won't need any modification to the plumbing or the fairing (right ?).

Well could you elaborate on these "mods" you're referring to ?

What I have done is always use a mix of distilled water+Water Wetter, changed the oem hoses with Samco silicone ones, changed the water pump cover with the SpeedyMoto billet cover and also I use a racing fairing with the '03-'04 styling (more holes in the front and the sides for better cooling).

I'd like to hear more/any advise on what more can be done for reasonable $$$ (that 749R rad is intriguing if it really does make a difference over the stock 999 rad... waiting for your thoughts on this before I go for it)

You know what helped me a lot? Cut out the fairings like the 2003/2004 999 versions were on the front and the side. Seems like it transported off the heat way better. That was good for 7-8°C.
See above Ben, it seems we think alike . As for the thermostat, I haven't removed it. Not sure it will make a difference though
