I do think Vale will smoke him in a Rally type car race... and theres no type of bike that Schumy can come close to Vale on.
When did close ever win a race? Close only counts in horseshoes and it doesn't amount to anything in terms of a win. I doubt MS is a slouch in a rally car as he has participated in rally races as well never mind the fact that driving a 800 hp F1 car to 7 world titles might give him an advantage over Rossi's occasional forays into the world of four wheels. You really think Rossi's rally experience is even close to MS car racing experience.
This isn't some local track guru taking on the worlds best. This is the winningest F1 driver in the world whose records, like Rossi's in Moto GP, are likely never to be touched taking on the other dominant racer in the world. Had Rossi beaten someone on par with Sebastien Loeb when he'd entered rallies (actually not a bad idea since Subaru and Suzuki left rally, but Rossi would lose to Loeb) I'd say he was the likely victor overall but that isn't the case.

In the end, Rossi wins on the bikes and MS in the cars with their respective sports governing bodies winning on the balance sheets. This would keep people arguing/discussing "how close" and "how difficult" one type of racing was over the other. In the end this is a racing organizers dream given that Moto GP and F1 may be suffering financially with recent major manufacturer departure; I'm sure both series will be pushing for this as they are likely pushing the Bayliss-Rossi battle, but in the end it will be just for show. The Bayliss-Rossi challenge would have more merit.
