It's most likely that a tech dropped a half ring in the head then it found its way down hill into the sump. 99.9% that he installed a new one.

To check it's quite simple. Just pull the valve covers and look at each valve stem. You'll see the half circle keepers in the collet. 2 per valve.

Note that if you ever want to adjust your valves slide a piece of 1/4" plastic fuel hose about 4" long down the return holes on the heads. That way the half rings can't fall down there as they are sooo easy to drop. Also put a wad of paper towel along the closer rocker shafts as the half rings can fall under them and are bitch to retrieve. *How would I know that....
