That seems like the best defense to crazy ass "liberal" social schemes and bad ideas like little or no military, lax criminal laws, gay sex taught to kid in schools etc.

Doesn't work. Read a history book or two. As far as "spread" of democracy... wake up to closed bid contracts and shadowy, shabby paperwork... a.k.a. three card Monty. Take vital care of the constitution that your democracy is based on.
Wake up! If you dont think twice, double check, look back, reflect, verify, you will be subverted and cheated, robbed and abandoned.

American appreciation of, and homage to, this Athenian heritage is as crucial to Democracy itself. You cant be appreciative of something you are unaware of. If you are unaware or oblivious, it means you didn't double check, intuitively question or wide eyed examine in the light of day... it means you've settled for an easy way and out sourced responsibility... guess it's not personal responsibility anymore.
Short term, narrow, straight line philosophy on a fragile planet that is round...ow. Chop it up Mr. "Free" market... dont bother Barney or Bill if he is running a God given, red blooded American business... He shall have his exoctic trees! As a matter of fact, he'll trade guns for trees. That way, more, cheap guns mean more socialist, terrorists and pagan stick lives can be put under the tracks of American capitalistic progress... pollution= environment be damned , security=freedom be damned , humility= spirituality be damned ..ah fak even the future be damned! If you care to inquire, some might say Sparta prevailed, some may say Athens did in the long run. Whatever, whomever, they lost their way and fought each other into decline and fall, misery and loss.
Of course it was Athens that prevailed when you examine it's influence on how we speak, live our lives, aspire, research, teach, conduct business. If you dont think that Athens is related to you, and your nation then... you haven't been to Philadelphia. Gee what is the significance of Philly to the birth of your nation? Gee how much did Madison and Jefferson believe in Athenian Democracy? How closely is the American democracy(the US Constitution) modeled after the Athenian? My GF is from Philly and she is built like the liberty bell... well, except her crack is bigger.
If you could draw a parallel between all the events of Ancient Greece, learn a valuable lesson or two, become ambidextrous in your politics, pay respects to those who have willingly fallen for true democracy and demand truth from your dodgy leaders, the rest of us could welcome back traditional conservatism and the return of common sense and balance to the wacky liberals.
