Default BESIDES a leakdown test....

Gotta go back in the motor this winter. Rear cylinder base gasket leaks (just needs a bit o' Yamabond, methinks...) and the front cylinder is a bit low on compression (compared to rear) and burning oil.

I don't have access to a leakdown tester. Any other quick and dirty tests to try to figure out whether the front cylinder needs rings (just put in new ones with the HC pistons within the last 2K miles, but who knows, maybe the gaps have aligned or I just didn't break 'em in properly - although I was careful on both scores) or maybe valve guides (other causes of oil burning? - those seem the likely candidates)?

Thanks folks - Brian
