I'm around 60K miles on my '98. At this point I've accumulated one rectifier, two headlights, four batteries, three sets of chain/sprockets, a barnett clutch (plates&springs only), three repairs of the waterpump overflow spring/seal and god knows how many tires.
I need to replace the clutch outer bearing and the weep hole one more time; might as well since I've got the cover off for the clutch. At some point, when I get off my lazy ass I'll just do a motor swap with a fresher one and rebuild the suspension. I'm not interested in re-boring the cylinders due to the design of the 'barrels'. They don't come off/apart individually so the jig has to hold both barrels and I've
heard of people getting bad bores. For ~$800 a motor swap is cheaper than a re-boring job. The bike will be practically good as new then...
Mods consist of Devil Ti slipons with a proper re-jetting and a four degree ignition advance.
The bike is an absolute hoot to ride, too bad it sits idle most of the time while the RC gets ridden now.
Get it, you'll love it. Agreed that it's the most underrated bike around.
