It does not excuse what happened to these buyers, but does anyone else wonder why we all pay top dollar for arguably the most expensive bikes on the market (Ducati), but then scour the globe and internet in an effort to save $25 on a carbon fender?

sorry Phil, i disagree with you there man.
The reason Ducati people pay more for carbon parts is because the people selling them stuff know the owners want high end and they over charge a small premium for that want.
anything ducati costs more, look and see. this is one of the reasons i started to make duke parts to begin with, they get bent over on almost everything. carbon and exhausts are almost always double their japanese counterparts.
you will to a certain extent get what you pay for but not always. i for example can make a part for less as my overhead is less than say a larger company but my product might not be less of a quality product
