Default Ruined compression= 1500$??

Ever since I bought my R6 there was this clicky noise, and recently it has lost a considerable amount of power(acceleration and top speed). The bike bogs when I pined the throttle, or tried to go over 8 thou. So I took it in and they said one of the 4 compression cylinders is not working correctly, and it could have been caused by a lose bolt. He said I was looking at 1500 - 2000 $ in damage repair. I asked some friends and they explained how compression works to me, and I couldn't fathom how it's that much. I only payed 5 600 for the bike (2000), there was 29k Km on it; although that may explain why the compression went on it.

I cashed in my plates and garaged it, I don't think it's a good idea to drive it until I fix it. It still has value.

Someone let me know if I am being told the wrong info by yamaha.
