Yeah that is bacially the idea. There are marks on the case where you need to cut it down to. I got it as close as a could to those lines. The alt side was much easier, since there is more engine, that you don't want to cut, on the clutch side so you have to be careful. Once I got it close I used a sanding wheel to remove just enough material, then check again to see if the swingarm would fit.
