I did something similar and found the exhaust hangers too weak allowing the pegs to bend down over time. I made small 1/4" steel brackets which reside behind the exhaust bracket and attached an extention post with a sportster peg I had that allows me to bend them out of the way. Eventually i'll get nicer pegs but they have been on the bike for over five years and many miles of hard use. My wife says the position is fairly comfy.
