But seriously, Ducati has very different belt tension specifications for all of its motors. The specifications for the 1000 are very different from those of the other two valve motors (see chart below). For some reason it is the only air cooled motor to not run the rear belt looser when cold.
The belt frequency method is very precise and repeatable. When you do it using the allen wrench method you are not even in the ballpark of getting it close to the Ducati spec. I have the old style 2 valve factory spring scale tool for setting the belt tension and it is a joke compared to the frequency meter.
You might never have a problem, but after using this method I would never do it any other way.
