Ducati has switched to using belt frequency to tension the belts. It is a much more accurate way to measure belt tension. The frequency of the belt is measured in Hertz (cycles per second). You pluck the belt like a guitar string, the tighter the belt, the higher the frequency.
You don't have to use the Mathesis, you can just get a generic belt frequency meter.

BTW, The spec for the 1000DS motor is 142Hz, not 140Hz
