I took the hollow plastic brace off of my CR when I flipped the oil cooler in the vertical position. Never missed it. (Actually when I took the thing off, I found that it was full of water too. Stupid hollow plastic do-hicky thinger ma-bob slowin' me down all that time and didn't even know it! )
