Yea, I wouldn't think cutting the connector off that one end and trimming the insulation off just enough so it screws down in the coil would not be a big deal. I'd definately try that first before going through all the hassle and cost to get/try new coils. Please let us know how it works if you do decide to try trimming the wires to work though!!
