I just did exactly what you described. I vented the case, painted the basket and pressure plate, and drilled the cover. it turned out pretty good, but if I had to do it again, I'd probably just send the case to fox performance. For $75 it would have saved a lot of hassle and probably would have turned out better. I'll take some pics to show you how it turned out and put them up later.
