I have a 91 but I have no idea what the technical hell you guys are talking about.

I don't have a safety cut-off so I can ride with the stand down like an accident waiting to happen. If you lean over too much, it will hit the stand, a jolt would be sent through the bike, and the stand would be forced to swivel back/up by its spring. Sorry, I probably didn't help you in your question.
