For around town riding you should be fine. I don't very hard on the street and so I don't notice that much of a difference day to day. But on the track, my Showa rear shock wasn't the best performer. I think it just had to do with it being old and worn out. When I went back to school, I stopped having enough time for track days and such, and so never have gotten around to getting a new shock, it's just not a priority right now. Joe B has a point though, if you're not riding hard on the street you may not need a ton of compression dampening.
