If the rear isn't ever bottoming or isn't squatting excessively when you accelerate (reasons for more compression damping), then you don't need as much. I ran my stock shock at 0 compression (lightened 1997 900 SS, and I weigh 150 lbs.) and it still had too much. They all seem too harsh stock (a Penske cured all that). If you have the correct springs, you shouldn't need much compression damping.
