I looked at mine, I have no axial play on the QCC whatsoever. The only thing I can think of is whether you tightened the carrier bolts in a sequence so as to make sure everything is seated properly, although that probably wouldn't cause the issue your describing anyhow. You did re-install all 3 washers right? (Going left to right if your looking at the back of the bike: there's one on for the giant 41mm axle nut, one under the circlip on the hub assembly, and one for the hub assembly as it is seated against the swingarm)
