i'm all for a GSXR section too.
trackday at Road America went well today. i went out with the intermediates. they were mostly CCS guys getting track time in for the upcoming races this weekend. very few "street" bikes out there.
i felt great and the bike is incredible. i used the 1st session as a good warmup to shake 6 months of winter cobwebs out and get familiar with the bike. it goes exactly where you think it to go. it's truly telepathic. brakes are outstanding. i was on the fronts hard enough to float the rear wheel into turn 5 pretty regularly.
it is Fast. yes, with a capital F. i was seeing 166mph indicated on the long straight in 5th gear and it was still pulling hard when i pussed out and shut off for turn 1. my exit speed in the carosel was 98mph. i was going into 5 at 155mph and thru the kink before Canada corner at 135mph.
no i did not stare at the speedo all day. just a quick glance every once in a while to see what we were doing.
my Michelin Power Race, med compound tires performed perfectly. they were warm within half a lap.
some observations:
the bike needs higher rear sets. even with them at the highest of the 3 settings i was dragging my toes thru most turns. i'll be looking for them soon.
it gets good gas mileage. i went 215 track miles and used about 7 gallons of 93 octane Shell gas. that's nearly 31 mpg.
suspension is great as is. i'm going to jack the preload up a bit more on the forks. it was diving a little hard as i got faster and faster and braked later.
other than that it is hands down the best bike i've ever ridden. i felt confident and fast almost immediately.
here are my shaggey tires so you can quit calling me squiddly now and one of me suited up and ready to do battle.
