the doesn't show it for shisnick, so much for that $200. funny, i just received my haynes manual (the day after), doesn't cover my year, but i figured some things would apply, and sure enough, there is a special note showing to put the tapered side of the spacer in.

all in all, i got the spacer out. one of the local shops had a new spacer in stock. i'll be up and ready again tonight. $7.50 - probably the cheapest ducati lesson i will learn.
